The client envisioned a new home on Grindstone Island that would capture the spirit of a historic grand lodge. A reclaimed swing beam from a centuries-old barn became the inspiration for the design, setting the tone for a structure rich in character and authenticity. Drawing from the island’s own quarry, the client incorporated grand-scale fireplaces built from local stone, grounding the home in its setting. In collaboration with Redwood Lumber Company, we crafted a visual barn beam framework to support the second floor, merging rustic strength with refined detailing. The result is a new build with a deeply rooted sense of history—an enduring reflection of place, material, and memory. Photography by Revette Studio.
